Open Source in Schools
Open Source software, or software that is freely able to be modified and distributed, can be used to improve the quality of instruction and the utilization of resources in schools, especially schools with limited budgets.
In particular, Linux-based operating systems, such as Ubuntu, generally run faster on older hardware than their proprietary cousins Windows and MacOS. Furthermore, due to licensing restrictions, the MacOS cannot be legally used on any hardware other than Apple's own, which tends to be more expensive than that of other companies.
